Jakob Martin Strid honored at the Royal Culture Award show!

One of our collaborators – the Danish author Jakob Martin Strid was finally honored by the royal Danish family. Strid received Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary´s great cultural prize of half a million Danish kroner.

WOW!!!

That´s a lot of money!! But it´s certainly well deserved. As an artist, he is best known for his satirical stripes in the Danish newspaper Politiken. But as an author, he received huge recognition with his children’s book from 1999 “Mustafa’s Kiosk”. In 2010 Crunchy Frog released “Mustafa’s Kiosk” as an audiobook, with Strids cartoons in it. Our very own Tremolo Beer Gut made a soundtrack, and the wonderful Povl Dissing made the voice overs. We just want to say congratulations to Jakob Martin Strid!! One of the finest authors in DK.

By the way, you can buy “Mustafa’s Kiosk” right here.

Crunchy Club # 5

Beloved people in London!

We know you’ve been missing another Crunchy Club so guess what? The 25th of September, we will let you have another one. We’re actually going to give you a pretty amazing night with 2 of our finest acts. Please notice, that we have a brand new location – the cool venue The Old Blue Last: http://www.theoldbluelast.com/contact/

The Old Blue Last will be torn down, by Shiny Darkly and Thee Attacks.

Thee Attacks will never leave you disappointed. They have wowed critics and audiences alike during their endless amount of touring since the release of their first record “That´s Mister Attack To You” in 2010. With their catchy, riff-based rock ´n roll tunes from their upcoming album “Dirty Sheets” we can guarantee an amazing night, together with these 4 young men.

Shiny Darkly´s dark and noisy soundscape have already become a favorite amongst the English press. Their EP  takes the listener to a dark, highly electric, narcotic drone-like universe, highly inspired by the post punk and shoegaze of the 80’es and 90’es by the likes of Joy Division, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen and Jesus & The Mary Chain. Their live shows are even darker, and their soundscape will appear even noisier.

We hope to see you again. This night is not worth missing, ok?

…and KEXP takes a look at Danish music

One of the coolest radio stations in the Universe is KEXP straight out of Seattle. Having a crunchy band on one of their exquisite podcasts is an honour. Having two crunchy bands is just plain über kool. Find Shiny Darkly and Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band amongst other très magnifique Danish acts via iTunes, or from alternative sources OR… why not flowing from the KEXP site itself?

We´re about to reach September the 17th – which is the release date of Thee Attacks second full length record “Dirty Sheets”.  It´s gonna sound even dirtier, and more reckless than their previous record, and so will their live-shows.

First single, “So Cold”, released in May, shows Thee Attacks at their finest, and has already become an audience favorite after raucous live performances’ at this year’s SXSW in Texas and everywhere else.

Thee Attacks have wowed critics and audiences alike during their endless amount of touring since the release of their first record “That´s Mister Attack To You” in 2010. With a raw and potent live energy they have played at Roskilde Festival, SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Reeperbahn Festival and Eurosonic. Travelling countless miles, by bus, train and plane, Thee Attacks have been rocking crowds in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Spain, Portugal and France in the past two years.

This year Thee Attacks will aim tp conquer the world once again.  Shows in Germany, Iceland, Poland, Netherlands and of course Denmark have already been announced, and the band is looking forward to tear down a venue near you.

Tour De Crunchy

Three weeks ago the two cycling enthusiasts Kim Kix from Powersolo and Terry Attack from Thee Attacks did a simulator-race up Tourmalet on Danish TV. Always a pleasure to see team Crunchy win. And lose. Since life is not about winning or getting there first, we will keep the result a secret for those of you who did not catch the fight live. This is how it looks when you put musicians on two wheels.

Afterwards Terry talked about tour winner Bradley Wiggins, who’s a great fan of Thee Attacks. Mr. Wiggins himself also gave an interview about mod-culture and his passion for music. If you are lucky enough to have access to TV2 Play, you can (re)watch the whole thing by following this link.

And if anyone ever told you music and cycling are not compatible, let this picture prove them wrong!

Beards are funny in Danish…

… and for more reasons than the obvious fact that beard and fun share the same word Danish: skæg. Today the best reason for the funny-business is that the best Hr. Skæg in the universe is shaving off one of his beardy songs for you for free to celebrate the forthcoming start of the school year and the new album “Skæg med Ord” (pre-order here). Første Skoledag is the name (meaning first day of school) and it can be found by clicking on the cover below. It is… quite simply one of the best kids’ songs ever – tested on a wide selection of office crew family members (no animals were harmed):

ROSKILDE ’12: WHERE AND WHEN TO CATCH SHINY DARKLY

Tickets have just been handed out here at Crunchy HQ and we have had the Roskilde playlist on repeat for a very, very long time now. Shiny Darkly has gone under ground to prepare for their concert. We are unpleasantly excited and we can’t wait to see all of you out there in the beautiful, beautiful muuuuud.

SHINY DARKLY x TUESDAY 3/7 x 17:30 x PAVILION JR x  RSVP

AOK / URBANKBH recommends Shiny Darkly

”One of the more dynamic rock bands in the Danish underground at this very moment must be the Copenhagen trio Shiny Darkly. The Warm-Up offers many good concerts with upcoming bands, but if you have to point out one, the choice must fall upon Shiny Darkly (…) the trio is already digging their way up the mould of the underground to a larger audience. It is no wonder if the band is a part of the »real« Roskilde line up next year, but there is no excuse not to see them during this year’s Warm-Up.”

ALL SCANDINAVIAN as well

“Despite only having an EP with six tracks under their belt Shiny Darkly are a hell of a live band. The Danish trio released said eponymous EP earlier this year and I have caught them live a couple of times live since then. It has been a good a experience every time. The cool youngsters play noisepop with distorted guitars, simple and mesmerizing bass lines and vocals that ooze sunglasses, leather jackets and “I don’t give a shit”-attitude. If you are into The Raveonettes, Jesus And The Mary Chain and Ian Curtis you should check them out.”

UNDERTONER includes Shiny Darkly in the “the 80’s revisited”-guide
“The Danish post punkers in Shiny Darkly (…) invites to a rock’n’roll-ball somewhere between Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Horrors anno Primary Colours Tuesday 17:30, so remember leatherjacket and sunglasses”

Luckily this is not your only chance to catch Shiny Darkly during Roskilde:

SHINY DARKLY meet’n’greet x TUESDAY 3/7 x 18:15 x SONIC ZONE x ROSKILDE CD-SHOP
The boys will answer silly question, sell their debut EP and kiss your cheek after the concert.

SHINY DARKLY feat. KLASHY x WEDNESDAY 4/7 x 22:50 x SONIC ZONE
With their drummer heading back to US after the show, last two men standing will team up with a DJ from the Klashy Collective and give you an alternative version of Shiny Darkly. Crazy, yes. Crazy, good. More about Klashy right here.

Besides this Shiny Darkly will be on P6 Beat tune in and catch the boys just before the show Tuesday (around 15:20), afterwards Roskilde Festival Radio will follow-up (around 19). So there’s even a little bit of Shiny Darkly for those of you who for some reason aren’t present. Keep an eye on WIMP and Gaffa for more shiny dark news.

Okay. Nothing more to say.
Remember. Tuesday. 17:30.

SEE YOU AT ROSKILDE ’12!
