Best of 2012 – Andreas

Ty Segall Band – Slaughterhouse

It’s December-time, which means it’s list-time – huzzah! Over the next three weeks, leading up to Christmas, each of us Crunchy staffers will give a rundown of our our favorite records from the year that has passed. Some ranked in order of preference, some in alphabetic order and some split into Danish vs International releases, because… well, consensus is hard. In the end, we’re all music obsessives here at Crunchy HQ, with an office stereo that is always playing and a lot of strong opinions on whatever is played. Hopefully these lists will give you, the reader, a fun little insight into our musical tastes and, who knows, you might just find your next favorite band.

The rules: In order to qualify an album has to have been released in the current calendar year (2012, duh), it cannot be a re- release, it has to be a full- length (no EPs) and it cannot be a Crunchy release (for the obvious reasons), a Stucco Records release (the fine label run by our intern Jakob) or a Big Oil release (another fine label run by Crunchy Tunes’ own Andreas).

To kick things off I’ll list my favorite 20 albums of 2012 and then we’ll upload a new list every other weekday — as in, the next list will be up on Thursday. Picking my favorite albums from 2012 has been harder than any other year previous, simply due to the sheer quality of music put out. It’s a testament to how much excellent music released, when albums such as Frank Ocean’s, Kendrick Lamar’s, Grizzly Bear’s, Django Django’s, Chromatic’s, Flying Lotus’, Choir of Young Believer’s, etc simply did not fit on to my list. So high fives to everyone around and enough about me… here’s the list:

Andreas’ Top 20 for 2012 [Ranked 1-20]

1. Ty Segall Band – Slaughterhouse
2. Less Win – “Great”

Stalker at Barometret

If you listened to Det Elektriske Barometer last night it’s not a big secret – Barometeret loves Crunchy Frog! A couple of weeks ago Lars and The Hands of Light were on The Barometer List. And now it’s Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band’s turn. They are one of the ‘Boblere’ this week with their new single “Stalker”.

We think you should hit play, take a look at the cool video and right after follow THIS LINK and vote the song straight to the list. Otherwise Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band are going to stalk you! No, just kidding…

CRUNCHY PRAKTIK

Via internationale succeser med bl.a.

Verdens bedste hilsner,

Crunchy Frog

Yeah that’s right, the brand new single ‘End of Summer’ made it to the list!

And we don’t want it to stop here. So take a listen to the new single from Lars and The Hands of Light while you vote the song all the way to the top of Barometeret. Just follow THIS LINK and remember you don’t have to be quiet while voting!

New Oliver North Boy Choir video

On a grey and rainy day like this we think it’s time to give you a little treat to keep you happy. The trio that only exist online, Oliver North Boy Choir, have released another single – WUHU! It’s called “Sleep” and as all other ONBC songs it’s sad pop with a great femal vocal. Perfect for the autumn.
And it doesn’t stop here. Oliver North Boy Choir have made a video for the single inspired by Chris Marker, one of the big guys in French Nouveau Vague and known for his short film ‘La Jetée’. Take a look at this little photo novel with sleeping people and enjoy the rest of your (sleepy) Thursday.

And the nominees are…

It’s Friday, J-dag (a day where all the Danes act crazy and drink beers with blue hats on their heads) and it’s the day where Gaffa announces the nominees for this year’s GAFFA-Prisen. Among all the nominees Crunchy Frog are proud to have Thee Attacks and Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band – that’s pretty cool! The two bands are actually nominated in the same categories and that’s “Danish Rock Release of the Year” and “Danish Band of the Year”. We’re gonna give you a big fat kiss if you’re voting for them – all you need to do is click right HERE!

Live performance on KEXP

A couple of weeks ago Apparat Organ Quartet visited Seattle and the awesome radio station KEXP for a live session. Triple Trouble

This Thursday there’s only three places you should be (if you’re in Copenhagen) – either at Blågårds Apotek, Harbo Bar or Understellet. You may wonder why and that’s what we’re going to tell you now. Thursday it’s Spil Dansk Dagen (you Danes know what we’re talking about) and to celebrate the day three bands have decided to play three concerts at three pubs.

Now you may have a bunch of question but just lean back and listen – the bands are The Tremolo Beer Gut, Tempomatador and Snake & Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band and they will each be at one of the pubs 9 pm and after a concert switch places and play another concert etc. (see the schedule HERE) Yeah, that means you can catch three concerts with your favourite band or three concerts with three different bands – we hope you will play along and enjoy the alternative pub crawl.
